Having non-free-firmware on the install media would make things so much easier, but only for laptops, but also on servers, as most common gigabit NICs don't work without one. That would be a great move on Debian's part

@ScriptFanix je plaide coupable :-) Ceci dit la solution plaidée est plus nuancée que ça, c'est plutôt créer un composant spécifique de l'archive pour les firmwares, l'inclure dans les médias d'installation officiels, et mettre en place l'infrastructure nécessaire pour en informer les utilisateurs et leur laisser le choix.

Fascinating read. It's interesting to see the debian community grapple with these issues.
I've always respected Debian for finding a happy (if excreting tenuous) medium between pragmatism and dogmatism.
@debian Very interesting read. I've used Debian many times in the past, and for quite a long time (still do on some boards), but this issue always bit me somewhere. Video, sound, ethernet, whatever. Debian is really great, and could be made even better by lowering this "barrier".
