Could you advice me on a cheap hosting provider for a small dedicated server?
I need to be able to manage cron tasks and vhosts (that's why I need a dedicated one). I was using a kimsufi at 20 euros per month but I would like a cheaper one.

@fedilab
Try upcloud.com. I've been using it for a while now. I believe it's 5€+VAT for the cheapest instance.

@fedilab
And if you do decide to go with upcloud, check if you can find a discount/trial code online. You can get several months for free.

@fedilab
Vhosts also work on VPS, from about 3€ by Hetzner.

@fedilab what's your actual configuration of resources? (so i can compare with my provider)

@metalbiker
The configuration was too big for my needs. But Kimsufi smallest servers are never available. I wonder if they are really from time to time.

@fedilab i'm on exoscale, and their first tier is for 5€/mo

if you're interested i could give you my referrer code 😉

@Armageddon

@fedilab
I use scaleway, my bot server is like 2 bucks a month. They have others tho, 8 bucks is what the one I host masto on costs.

@it OK, I switched to scaleway. Really interesting! 3€/month for a dev environment.

@fedilab
Yeah! It's super cheap, I was blown away. I have my whole server farm there now, which is like 9 machines, and it only costs $50~ a month.

@fedilab
If it's for an open source project, reach out to @mbloch, they may be able to help.

@fedilab if you can write python and use cloudwatch events, you don’t need a 24/7 server that only runs a few tasks once in a while. Lambda functions run for pennies and cloudwatch events are cheap and can trigger them on a schedule. If you really just need a few scripts to run once in a while, it’s cheaper than a whole server. In fact, your usage might fit within the AWS free tier. Worth a look.

@manu

@fedilab online.net has machines starting at 5 ish euros.

@usul
Yes, I switched to Scaleway (online.net) for 3 euros per month :)

@fedilab Just FYI: can't complain about the €3 OVH VPS, either.
