Hello fellow Europeans in the #Fediverse:
Do you know about any organisations promoting #FreeSoftware, #OpenSource, #OER to educational instiutions/public administrations?
Are you aware of any educational institutions already using FS?
Do you know about any other #education related activities in your country?

@guido I've heard of both the French public service and an education department in Germany deploying chat systems based on the matrix protocol.
https://element.io/blog/element-brings-matrix-to-europe/
Since it's an open protocol, I'm not 100% sure they're using liberating software to implement these, but it seems likely.
@guido There's also the recent news about a Munich local government shifting back to a GNU-based OS:

Check out https://coderefinery.org/ who are active in the Nordics. Software Carpentry is more international.

Thanks!
@guido great question, I do this for little NGo's, associations, entrepreneurs but I don't know of any established organization working this at the level of public administration etc..
I can ask around for sure !
@rmdes Thanks!

Hello! Basques are trying to organize, promoting use of FS in education and also demanding institutions to do things propperly (not just use the "easy" Windows and the cheap or "free" Google services). It's not in English, but you could send an email and ask for information I guess https://hezkuntza.librezale.eus/kontaktatu/

@guido @egnun @fsfe
There is also x-Net, by the Catalans, doing the same thing I suppose https://xnet-x.net/en/
If you are looking for institutions that promote FS, instead of people movements, this is a list of Linux "distributions" (most of them are just Ubuntu remasterizations) prepared especially for education:
Lliurex (Valencia)
Guadalinex (Andalucía)
Luberri (Euskadi / EH)
MAX linux (Madrid)
Molinix (C. La Mancha)
LinEx (Extremadura)
Galinux (Galicia)
Linkat (Catalunya)
Vitalinux EDU (Aragón)
...?
Half of them might be abandoned. I just know Luberri, which is pretty cool and should be being used in every Basque school... but it's not... yet 😊 https://alexgabi.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html?m=1

More information may be in the Open Science MOOC. WikiCite, Scholion, most of the open publishing and reviewing software initiatives are open source.
You could have a look at the Open Science Barcamp & Open Science fair for information/hints.
