Whenever I need to reference a #Youtube URL, I have been using #youtubedl (https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl) to first download the movie then I reupload to #PeerTube and refence the YouTube link in the description. I think if everyone did this, PeerTube would be able to replace Youtube.
With Homebrew:
brew install youtube-dl
With APT:
apt install youtube-dl
With Chocolatey:
choco install youtube-dl
Usage:
youtube-dl --format webm <youtube.url>
..Just upload to https://peertube.social (for example)
@davidpgil Good idea, but I'd recommend to only do that for videos that are released under an appropriate #copyleft or permissive license, otherwise you can get yourself and/or your hoster in trouble for #copyright violation… 🙁
@midgard I doubt most people know what that is. For that reason I leave it up to the sharers discretion. I believe that if anything should happen, a simple cease-and-desist notice will suffice and the video will be taken down. I DO think its important to just share information.
