Et si tu n'est pas d'accord on a les moyens d'imposer ce qu'on veut

@tofeo
Usual question: what is the counter proposal? I must have asked this dozens of times but I still haven't seen what the demonstrators actual proposal is, if any.

I'm starting to think they're just burying their heads in the sand.

It is complicated and not easy to explain in one line.

They want RIC : Democraty because the governement does not represent people but only Rich company. Poor is getting poorest and rich richer.

They only fight for democraty.

@tofeo

Whereas the estates of the ancien régime did not totally disappear in #France but merely transformed with the result that, yes, there's a “bourgeois” power elite not unlike in the #US (a state of affairs which protesters, ironically, seek to preserve), I have to say that accusing the current government of elitism and not being in touch with people is not supported by the evidence.

@tofeo

Both the president and the cabinet spend an awful lot of time travelling around the country and meeting people, something which I don't recall previous presidents doing since, perhaps, #Mitterrand.

@tofeo
But #democracy is about #compromise and #negotiation, not about destroying public and private property because you can't have it your way.

I still haven't seen what the protesters are bringing to the table.

They are against the retirement reform. They say that the present system works well and don't need to be changed.

@tofeo

The present (chaotic) system is the result an original redistributive basis subject to the usual demographic challenges expanded by years of concessions to various pressure groups for short-term political gain. Currently, the bulk of pension funding comes from collections from a dwindling number is taxpayers to an increasing number of people reaching retirement age + a non-sustainable fund that was capitalised by privatisations in the 80s and 90s.

@tofeo

Denying the inviability of the current system is up there on a par with #climate change denial.

@tofeo

The other issue is that the current system is super inegalitarian (thanks to the aforementioned concessions).

If you pay attention, the #unions and groups supporting and encouraging the strikes are those in industries, such as rail workers, with very advantageous #retirement plans compared to the bulk of the population.

They are not protesting for *your* #pension (unless you happen to be in one of those privileged groups). They are protesting purely for selfish reasons.

@0

As far as I understand they are protesting for all people for the commun interest pension not only for egoistic priviledge.

They are not privileged now because Rail way reform killed few year ago their priviledges

@0

the problem here is that Governement has no power but European commission ask the gorvenememt to do reform. France loose all sovergnety. It is not a democraty any more election is useless.
