Je me souviens de la première fois où j’ai découvert « Le tueur » de Matz, il y a plusieurs années de cela.

J’avais été captivé par la qualité du scénario du premier tome, si bien écrit et si efficace que j’ai immédiatement emprunté tous les autres volumes à la bibliothèque et les ai dévorés d’une traite ou presque.

A game of secrets and lies. ‘Bloody Orkney’ is a fast-paced thriller set in Scotland, mainly in Orkney, during World War Two. It uses many real settings, transported eight decades back in time.

Scapa Bay in Orkney was a very much busier place in 1942 than it is today and has an important part to play in the book, as does Scapa Distillery, which can be seen on the far side of the bay in this modern photograph.

A murder mystery fantasy novel - why is this a first for me?! Fairly standard whodunnit which escalates to political intrigue, made distinctive by very cool world-building: an empire built to defend against leviathans attacking from the sea, whose bodily fluids enable a raft of fantastical bio-enhancements. Interesting characters and the potential for more fleshing out give the series much promise.
