It's like any kind of gamble, sometimes it pays off, but only if you cash out before losing it all.

@clacke @moonman I mean, some things are straight up super obvious ponzi schemes.

But it's all tulip bulbs, essentially. It's a computationally and resource intensive way of hating the government (any government) and if society as a whole starts being more sensible about imaginary value and start regulating it, it'll be pretty much the first thing on the chopping block.
