I am *very* intrigued
You can hide a proxy behind a regular web server like NGINX. I proxy a few websites already to help with censorship but running something like this could (literally) open up a whole new world for some.
Musing about metrics
I'm considering doing some form of logging for all my services just so I can see what's popular, which ones get *some* attention, which ones get none, and so I can have a general idea of how many people are using my services. At the moment, I don't have any idea what that information is.
I've been thinking about this for a while and I'm leaning towards going through with it. HOWEVER, I'm going to be very careful and conscientious with how I get this information and what I get; privacy and anonymity is still a major concern.
Yes, I could install Matomo and tell it to display anonymised information based on logs but those logs aren't sanitised at all; people's browser headers and IP addresses and all the other identifiable information is still there. What I think I'll do is write a custom log format for NGINX that only logs the bare necessities for very vaguely accurate information. It'll probably just the first two octets of their IP addresses and the date/time the page was accessed. They would be deleted every seven days.
OK apparently my Dell 5495 have some trouble with @opensuse Tumbleweed and XFCE (fresh install). I updated the OS and now I get a black screen after login.
If someone have any ideas how to fix this 🤔

Since people are going on and on, that #Selfhosting is not just running a script, let me clarify this:
Self-hosting is like gardening. Yes, it needs time and love. But mostly for making new stuff or big changes happen. When you do it properly it can boil down to a few minutes a week, as you maybe just need to water your plants in the garden.
It's a hobby, not everyone needs to do it. There are professional services as alternative, but it's nice to share with friends.
Something that would really change my life as a FOSS dev is that people stop seeing FOSS as a finished product but instead as a best effort collective work by people that are [in position off] contributing for free on their free personal time on it and gave it to you for free [when this situation apply].
Like stop saying that "this is total shit" because you had bugs or because it wasn't top 100% perfect like you want for your super edge case that it wasn't designed for -_-
Don't nationalize Facebook
Some people say "nationalize Facebook" because social media has become a public utility, but holy shit I don't want the government having that data anymore than I want a private company to have it. Dismantle corporate social media and decentralize it. Maybe let municipal governments set up local nodes, since not everyone will have the ability to run their own servers. Better yet, have public libraries set up local nodes (they're gov't funded, but usually arms-length).

That project is amazing :)
