Working Class Games<p>Was trying a duckduckgo search for a restaurant in town, and I clicked on a link to read it, then came back to the search results. Suddenly a bunch of links disappeared and the first two links were now tripadvisor.</p><p>I selected hide site from these results and immediately a tripadvisor link from another url (different country) pops up. I kind of kept going and hiding about 15 results and new tripadvisor links kept popping up. This went on until "Search query entered was too long. Open Risk<p>An intriguing aspect of the centralization / <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/enshittification" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>enshittification</span></a> versus <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/decentralization" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>decentralization</span></a> of the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a> debate is that "real life" is naturally decentralized. </p><p>It takes real effort to centralize institutions and behavior when people are geographically dispersed. To corral them and keep them corralled. And it never happens 100%, people like their locality.</p><p>In contrast, even though digital infrastructure is decentral, it has come to pass that centralization is somehow easier and more natural.</p>

We know how to make very good and reliable ones and we have known for a long time.<br>But the problem of selling good and reliable TVs (mine is well over 10 years old and still works perfectly) is that you only sell them once, so you don't make a lot of money on them. You make worse TVs, and you make the owner pay forever instead of paying a one-off. Alanna<p>Coding for work in PHP yesterday. JetBrains has recently turned on "Full Line Autocomplete" by default - an LLM that allegedly runs locally on your system. It's normally wrong and annoying, but it autocompleted something wrong in an extremely amusing way that showed no understanding whatsoever of the context of the code.
