One has to wonder how far the 'cold feet' being shown currently over <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/nondoms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nondoms</span></a> reflects the continued influence of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rothermere" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rothermere</span></a> through the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/dailymail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dailymail</span></a> empire !</p>
Alexander Hay<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mas.to/@PhilipCJames" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>PhilipCJames</span></a></span> The late art critic <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BrianSewell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BrianSewell</span></a> made a good point about how easily the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/British" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>British</span></a> would have fallen into line under <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Nazi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nazi</span></a> occupation.</p><p>The main reason why the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/NationalFront" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NationalFront</span></a> and the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BNP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BNP</span></a> did so badly was not due to an innate love of liberal democracy, but simply because they were not marketable enough. </p><p>All it takes is for someone like <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Farage" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Farage</span></a> to come along, or someone like <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Murdoch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Murdoch</span></a> and the Lords <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Rothermere" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rothermere</span></a> to blight the public discourse, and it all falls away very quickly.</p>
