The most spectacular residential building in Lyon #Confluence is certainly the Tour Ycone, the filigree residential tower by Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel. With its soft colors and blurred, almost indistinct silhouette, the Tour Ycone nestles into the post-industrial urban landscape between the #Rhône and #Saône rivers. The tower appears to be loosely assembled from fragile scaffolding and rectangular frames. It looks as if a light breeze could bring this upwardly divergent house of cards crashing down. But a perforated, loosely attached roof forces the airy shape of the tower into a solid form.

Der Diebesturm von Grünberg ist ein beeindruckendes Wahrzeichen der Stadt und ein Zeugnis ihrer reichen Geschichte.
Einst Teil der Stadtbefestigung und als Gefängnis genutzt, fasziniert er heute mit seiner historischen Architektur und seinem besonderen Charme.

Der Diebesturm, ein mittelalterlicher Rundturm aus grobem Naturstein, ragt in den strahlend blauen Himmel. Sein grünes Spitzdach mit einer goldenen Wetterfahne verleiht ihm einen markanten Abschluss. Umgeben von kahlen Asten und einem modernen roten Kunstwerk im Vordergrund, steht er als stiller Zeuge der Zeit.
Eine Nahaufnahme des oberen Teils des Diebesturms zeigt das grüne Spitzdach mit der goldenen Wetterfahne in Form eines geflügelten Wesens. Darunter ein kleines, vergittertes Fenster mit rot umrahmten Backsteinen, das sich in die raue Steinmauer einfügt. Der tiefblaue Himmel bildet einen eindrucksvollen Kontrast zur historischen Architektur.
Der Diebesturm in Grünberg bei einsetzender Dämmerung. Der runde, mittelalterliche Turm aus Bruchstein mit spitzem Dach erhebt sich vor einem tiefblauen Abendhimmel. An seiner Basis steht eine rote, moderne Kunstinstallation in Form von drei stilisierten Herzen, die auf einer geneigten Plattform ruhen. Der Turm und die Umgebung werden von warmem Licht angestrahlt, wodurch ein stimmungsvolles Zusammenspiel zwischen alter Architektur und moderner Kunst entsteht. Im Vordergrund führen Stufen und ein Weg zur Turmöffnung, daneben eine Infotafel mit Beleuchtung. Kahle Bäume umrahmen die Szene.

Skyscraper doin' Gangnam-style

Seocho Garak Tower East, GT Tower, in Gangnam Square is unique in a city filled with some very unique high rise buildings.

This high rise is built in the center of Gangnam, the affluent and prestige filled office and living city area south of Seoul Central. It is a known and visible because of its bright blue colour and architectural dancelike movement in the façade. Not only for people working here, but for anyone who wants to see some of the inspiration for the monster hit.

I had just visited Samsung showroom of the then latest in mobile tech. Coming out and having a blue building dancing in front of me, added to the feeling of innovation and future optimism.

The 130 meter tall, 24 storey building was finished in 2011. Daelim Group, the giant conglomerate based on engineering, construction and petrochemical industry is the main inhibitor.

In what areas is the castle in Malbork record-breaking?

1) The largest brick castle in the world - a fortress so fortified that it was never conquered militarily, the inhabitants could survive 3 years without any supplies, and the monastery part was accessed by 4 bridges thrown over the water.

2) The largest kitchen hood in the world - the most exquisite food of the Middle Ages came out of the kitchen, this was confirmed by important heads of Europe at that time, it was also tasted by King Casimir the Great.

3) The largest sculpture of medieval Europe - the Malbork Madonna is over 8 meters high, it was recreated by modern conservators, covered with a mosaic containing real gold. It can be seen on the castle walls of the chapel, from under the ticket office building. Interestingly, the glass cubes were brought from Venice, and the gold elements from Gdańsk.

4) The largest number of latrines in a stronghold in the Middle Ages - even cooks had their own toilet, and cabbage leaves were often used as toilet paper, which also had medicinal properties, e.g. anti-inflammatory.

5) The largest number of wells in a castle in the Middle Ages. Interestingly, the fortress also had access to running water.

6) The oldest underfloor heating in these lands - large stones in the basement were heated in fireplaces and acted as storage furnaces. The heat escaped into the rooms through special holes in the floors.
