DesertFOX<p>For some time in the early 90s, included in select 10-packs of Verbatim floppy disks, there was an 11th disk containing a few games taken from Microsoft's Entertainment Pack for Windows. Once part of a simple promo campaign, these disks have turned into sought-after collectibles for fans of classic "WEP" games.</p><p>I've had disk images of these samplers for a while now, both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, but only today I realized, they were also released with 5.25 inch disks. I really love these bigger diskettes, so I think this is awesome!</p><p>I could even find a working disk image on the Internet Archive. Put your finger on those words and swipe to the left; at the end of the row, on the far right, you’ll see Search tools.<br> • After tapping Tools or Search tools, you’ll see a drop-down labeled All results. A few years back (JUST pre-pandemic) I bought a whole card of <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/Verbatim" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Verbatim</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/USB" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USB</span></a> sticks from CostCo. OK OK buying hardware at CostCo was perhaps not the wisest choice - but this is mostly a PSA to say that Every Single One of them (There wer like 15 or something in the pack) has failed.</p><p>Not just gotten flaky, but DEAD. AS A DOORNAIL.</p><p>I won't be buying Verbatim USB sticks again!</p>
