Sad times for Fyre Festival 2 ticketholders (any fediverse folk admitting to having splashed out?) as its founder Billy McFarland has announced the cancelation of the event. But some lucky person will get to buy the brand, which is now for sale. When our @CultureDesk posted about this, they (and commenters) pooh-poohed the idea of anyone wanting to invest in Fyre Festival. But we have an idea: How about @theonion.com purchases the name, makes merch, and donates the money to good causes. We’d certainly pay for a “I went to the Fyre Festival 2, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt” tee.

Y’all that fyre festival grifter is planning scamfest 2.

I’m shocked that this is allowed to happen, but it looks like the first scam happened in Trump’s first term, so it makes sense he would run scam 2.0 now that the scammers and rape felons are running the government again.

But who TF is falling for this again?!?

Bwahaha. Anyone want to buy a super toxic brand name? #FyreFestival is for sale.

NYDailyNews: Aspiring event planner Billy McFarland is throwing in the towel on Fyre Festival. After two failures to launch, McFarland is hoping to sell the brand he made famous — for better or worse — to another operator. The announcement comes after two years of trying to launch a second Fyre Festival to follow the 2017 debacle that landed him in prison for four years.

“This brand is bigger than any one person and bigger than what I’m able to lead on my own. It’s a movement. And it deserves a team with the scale, experience, and infrastructure to realize its potential.‍"

What successful international conglomerate is being discussed here? It is, of course, Fyre Festival.

Felon founder Billy McFarland announced today that he's officially canceled the second edition of the festival, which was due to take place next month in Mexico, and is also selling the name. “We have decided the best way to accomplish our goals is to sell the Fyre Festival brand, including its trademarks, IP, digital assets, media reach, and cultural capital - to an operator that can fully realize its vision," he said in a statement on the official website. "There is a clear path for operators and entrepreneurs with strong domain expertise to build Fyre into a global force in entertainment, media, fashion, CPG, and more.” Here's more from @Independent

We don't have any info on how much MacFarland hopes to get for his brand, but we'll be sure to keep you posted, in case you're interested in investing.

Is Fyre Festival 2 on or off? No one knows, though we'd put money on "off." NBC says the website was updated earlier today to say the festival was postponed. Shortly after that, the site was changed to say tickets are "currently not available." Billy McFarland, who went to prison for wire fraud and other crimes related to the first Fyre Festival in 2017, had claimed he was working with officials in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico to get permits, but the officials said there was no record of the event. No performers had been announced for Fyre Festival 2, which was scheduled for May 30-June 2, with ticket packages ranging from $1,400 to $1.1 million.

We're not sure any fediverse folks have splashed the cash on Fyre Festival 2 tickets (did you also try and buy Graceland from that woman in Missouri?). But just in case you were tempted, the tourist board in the location where it's supposed to take place in Mexico says it "does not exist." Edgar Gasca, from the tourism directorate of Isla Mujeres, said, “We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it." The event is supposedly happening from May 30-June 2. Tickets went on sale last week priced from $1,400 — still with no confirmed musical performers or details on what will be happening. Here's more from the NME.

Tickets are now available for Fyre Festival 2, which will take place in May in Mexico. You'll pay between $1,400 and $1.1 million for a ticket, and in exchange you'll get ... no one really knows. The Fyre Festival site promises arts, cuisine, music, comedy, fashion, gaming, sports and "treasures," but no musical artists have yet committed to performing at the three-day event. Organizer Billy McFarland was jailed for four years for defrauding investors of more than $27 million after the first Fyre Festival in 2017. Here's more from @CBSNews.

Convicted fraudster Billy McFarland is having another shot. After the utter disaster of Fyre I, then a failed attempt to stage 'Fyre Festival 2' in the Caribbean last year, he's having another punt.

Fyre 2 will be held on a Mexican island starting May 30th. Tickets range from $US1,400 to $1.1 million (!) and so far there's not a single artist listed. Not one.

McFarland was sentenced to six years in jail for fraud after Fyre I.

Fool me once... etc.

Fyre Festival II has a vague location and a specific date: A privately owned island off the coast of Mexico, April 25-28 2025. The first iteration of the festival in 2017 was an unmitigated disaster, with attendees paying thousands for no entertainment and cheese sandwiches, and founder Billy McFarland ending up in jail for wire fraud. McFarland told TODAY that he has learned his lesson, for example, by hiring a production company to handle logistics, but refused to confirm who they were, or the exact location of the island. Who will be performing? “We haven’t booked any talent for Fyre II,” he said. “It’s not going to be just music — for example, karate combat. We’re in talks with them to set up a pit to have, like, live fights at Fyre Festival II.” 100 tickets have been sold so far at $500 apiece, and McFarland says other packages will soon go on sale with the max price being $1.1 million. Here's more.

A musical satire inspired by the disastrous Willy Wonka event in Glasgow, with the unusual name of "Willy Fest," is in development, the BBC reports. The writing team was "assembled in less time than it takes for someone to sing the first verse of 'Oompa Loompa Doompa-Dee-Do'," producer Richard Kraft said. Kraft previously produced a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and the team for this project includes Emmy-nominated comedian Riki Lindhome and Broadway songwriters Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner.
