Just this week I needed to renew my membership to my local #library (#Australia, where local #libraries are managed by local councils).
The amount of personal information required was astonishing. It included my DOB, mobile number, email, address, job, etc. In addition, they required full contact details of a relative or friend.
When I asked them about their privacy policy with regards to these data, they had no idea.
And they give you a PIN you need to use in order to use the computers. I.e. your online activity is fully #tracked.
I mention this because usually public libraries are seen as some sort of bastion of fairness and free information. But this recent experience made feel as if I was dealing with any of the usual suspects in the #surveillance industry.
