We're putting America-hating Republicans like Trump, Musk, Vance, and Maga Mike Johnson in their place!

#SupremeCourt temporarily blocks #deportations of #Venezuelans held in northern #Texas

By Nicholas Riccardi, April 19, 2025

"The Supreme Court on Saturday blocked, for now, the deportations of any Venezuelans held in northern Texas under an 18th-century wartime law.

"In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in the #BluebonnetDetentionCenter 'until further order of this court.'

"Justices #ClarenceThomas and #SamuelAlito dissented.

"The high court acted in an emergency appeal from the American Civil Liberties Union contending that immigration authorities appeared to be moving to restart removals under the #AlienEnemiesAct of 1798. The Supreme Court had said earlier in April that deportations could proceed only if those about to be removed had a chance to argue their case in court and were given 'a reasonable time' to contest their pending removals.

" 'We are deeply relieved that the Court has temporarily blocked the removals. These individuals were in imminent danger of spending the rest of their lives in a brutal Salvadoran prison without ever having had any due process,' ACLU lawyer Lee Gelernt said in an email."

I’ve always assumed we don’t need to convince any hard line MAGA true believers

It’s a better use of time to reach out to people in the community who may feel isolated thinking that everybody else is a MAGA

When at most only 30% of the 60% who bothered to vote went for Trump, and a bunch of them are probably already regretting it

That’s a lot of more eager-to-be-reached people

There was a good showing at the #HandsOff #FiftyFiftyOne protest in Coeur d'Alene, #Idaho .

I think a large "No Honking" sign would be a good idea for the next protest.

Police were pulling people over for honking and issuing citations. There is a law regarding this but the action and show of force appeared outside the spirit of the law in my opinion.

Went to my local protest today

This was my first protest I’d ever been to and wasn’t sure what to expect. I think one of the main reasons that keeps people from going to protests is because of the view that they’re ineffective, no one will show up, etc. Much like voting, every person counts. Additionally, it was great to be in a community-driven environment surrounded by people upset with what’s been going on (yet all glad to be there)—this brings so much of a morale boost it’s hard to conceive until you’re there. Young, old, nurses, teachers, combat veterans, and everyone in between showed up. (And no, El*n, none of us were paid.)Additionally, there were a few different side activities going on that you could be a part of as well, primarily petitions for movements to get on the ballot. Let me say this again, petitions to get on the state/local ballot, not just petitions to show your anger/support for a cause. Many local candidates and policy bills need a certain number of signatures from registered voters to even qualify to get onto a ballot on Election Day—Barack Obama talks about going through this process in his memoir while he was running to be a local state representative. This is how change starts—from the local level up. At this protest, not only were we expressing our frustration peacefully and finding community, we also had the ability to help get causes onto the ballot that we want to see. It is NOT against the Hatch Act for you to partake in any of these activities. Change starts small. When I look back at the last few months years from now, I’ll be glad I did this.

"In America, food manufacturers faced no prohibitions on their use of chemical additives, nor any regulation on divulging ingredients.
By the end of the 19th century, the food supply was rife with chemicals and fakes.

"The USA was unique among industrialized nations about not having food safety regulations.
There were all kinds of restrictions on American food imports in Europe because they didn’t trust the cleanliness of our food."
