Liberate yourself from the value placed on material possessions.

Capitalists have manipulated the population into consuming much more than they need to widen the ever growing gap between the wealthy and the working people.

Reducing your consumption gives the working people power, a way to stand up against the system that is destroying the world we live in.

Stop consuming. Start living.

Managed to parlay the "being up ungodly-early-for-me” into "may as well see how Costco is at doors-open o'clock” with a side of TJs (who were, sadly, completely out of a lot of my usual stuff 😞).

Anyway, now we have experienced Costco as home-owning adults. Fun times, even if as expected, 70% of what's in there is wasted on a household of two 😂

We nearly made back this year's membership on the savings on a 3-pack of Flonase alone tho! 🤣 (plus lots of snacks, toiletries etc)

Port of Los Angeles Exec Director says about 5-7 weeks to “spot shortages" expected in the USA as drop in imports starts to take hold this week and existing inventory is used up.

Happy July 4 America! You're really going to learn the meaning of "Independence”!

Gilbert has compiled perhaps the first comprehensive examination of turn-of-the-millennium mainstream, cool-kid trends and ephemera, and how they were largely molded by those in power to sell a generation of girls and young women reality-warping lies: that self-objectification is empowerment, that disciplined conformism is a lifelong project, that sexism is comedy.

The defiant female musicians of the 1980s and early ’90s — Madonna, Janet Jackson, Kathleen Hanna — gave way to millennial pop’s much younger, less opinionated girls, like Britney Spears (pictured in concert at Hammerstein Ballroom in 1999).

This is what's called #ClimateColonialism. It is what you get when you keep combining #ClimateSolutions with profit bound #Capitalism.
This no reason to return to fossil fuels. They're just as bad or worse.
This is about #Exploitation of the Earth and #Indigenous people for the eternal excuse of #EconomicGrowth and #Consumerism .

Just paid my internet bill…

It's crazy to think that two years ago in California we were spending $265.29/month for 1 Gbps internet + cable TV + equipment + fees/taxes + hidden fees. PER MONTH!

Now we're spending 34,90 €/month for the same speed + better service + a ton of free channels. We also cut all but one of our streaming subscriptions ages ago.

Anyway. Finding that the longer I'm in Finland, the less I want/need things beyond the basics.

I saved $36,000 by not buying anything new and paid off debt. What I didn’t anticipate was how much time I reclaimed, how much my stress level dropped, and how much more creativity and focus I had. Life was genuinely better once I got off the consumerist hamster wheel.

Racist and homophobic ideals are not welcome on my profile.

If you use set instance with a racist and homophobic admin, I highly recommend migrating to another instance.

If you decide to switch to another instance, here’s a quick intro about me and what you’ll find on my Mastodon page:

Capitalism promises freedom but traps us in a cycle of “work-spend-repeat.” We’re sold endless stuff we don’t need, while workers get exploited for profit and the planet burns.

Consumerism turns us into branded zombies, chasing status through gadgets, fast fashion, and disposable crap.

Meanwhile, billionaires hoard wealth, politicians bow to corporations, and communities fracture.

This isn’t “progress”, it’s a rigged game.

The EU targets clothes and furniture in a crackdown on wasteful consumerism.

Textiles, furniture, tires and mattresses will be subject to much stricter design standards to ensure they last longer, as the EU aims to stamp out wasteful consumption, the European Commission confirmed on Wednesday.
