Berlin has reported a marked increase in attacks on asylum seekers and refugee shelters, amid a sharp rise in far-right crime and a hardening of German migration policy.

The department would eliminate a bureau overseeing #democracy & #HumanRights issues; one that handles #refugees & #migration; & another that works with international organizations. The under secretary position overseeing the first two bureaus would be cut. So would the office of the under secretary of public #diplomacy & public affairs.

The department would also get rid of the position of the special envoy for #climate.

Pakistan has deported nearly 20,000 Afghans this month in its accelerated drive to expel undocumented Afghans and those with temporary permission to stay. Between 700 and 800 families are being deported daily, Taliban officials say, with up to two million people expected to follow in the coming months. @BBCNews reports:

"Everyone I know who went through this “offshore detention” scheme has since been diagnosed with PTSD. I think we need a new term for what we experienced, like Manus disease or offshore detention syndrome. Even people who just spent a month there are still suffering.

Not knowing when you’ll leave — it’s worse than any prison sentence. It destroys your mental health.

Nowadays, I work with the Salvation Army, and volunteer to help Ukrainians in France who fled Russia’s invasion. Ukrainian refugees are protected by the French government — every refugee should be treated that way. They should be given a chance to live and build a future. I also provide support and counseling for people on Manus Island and those who left but are still suffering.

I still have my own struggles with depression and mental health, but helping others in my situation lifts me up.

It was torture what the government did to us. They were saying it was deterrence, but it never worked. It hasn’t stopped people from trying to get to Australia to seek protection because they have no choice. Instead, it has become a stain on Australian history.

I hope no European country ever adopts this policy"

“Worse still is that their medical reports are not made available even the violence and induced medications onboard are not communicated to the Nigerian authorities. These brutal deportation operations render returning Nigerians as destitute and as such highly vulnerable.”

He noted that over the past six years, there have been trending reports and testimonies of massive violence and violation of rights by German authorities in desperation to deport Nigerians against all odds.
