It looks like I might get trapped in the #Ergo-L (https://github.com/Nuclear-Squid/ErgoL) rabbit hole. Typing #BÉPO on my TypeMatrix(es) for quite some time now, but am annoyed by the friction I feel when writing to machines. The right auricular extensions are crazy (w,z,m and ç are really far) and hurting. Never could get used to BÉPO on Atreus (2nd-layer z or w, really?) and still haven't gotten to use my Model100 properly, likely due to all that friction. 1/2
This thread (in french) is what triggered me to action: https://framapiaf.org/@fabi1cazenave@mastodon.social/110819049478341137
Thanks @fabi1cazenave , @NuclearSquid and @ploum !
@OdyX @NuclearSquid @ploum The Atreus is a really good keyboard, I bought mine for X-Mas and I love it. With a proper keyboard layout, I’m confident you’ll like it as much as I do !
@fabi1cazenave @NuclearSquid Any recommendation of exercises to start learning Ergo-L ? "Just try it until it sticks" ?
@OdyX @fabi1cazenave What I recommend, is to start by only using Ergo-L during your typing exercises (up until you have the basics down).
keybr.com is awesome to start learning a new layout, it teaches you the 6 most frequent letters in English, then adds one at a time once you are confident. (It’s very demanding in terms of precision, but that’s the point).
I usually don’t usually stick around ~that~ much on this site, learning the first 10~12 letters is fine.

@OdyX @fabi1cazenave After that, I switch over to monkeytype.com, which has more general typing exercises. I usually to exercises of 25 words, English 1k, Punctuation on. At first I just try to get a not-too-slow speed just to build confidence.
Once you hit 30~40 wpm semi-consistently, I recommend working almost exclusively on accuracy. The "master" difficulty will fail a test after a single mistake, try finishing longer and longer tests ! (avoiding mistakes is the key to typing fast)

@OdyX @fabi1cazenave One thing you can also do, is to replace the "backspace" key with a "ctrl+backspace" key (to delete entire words) in order to "punish" mistakes during day to day typing and insure you build good muscle memory.
I may sound hyperbolic when talking about accuracy, but I mean it. If you have an accuracy rating < 97%, you’d probably go about as fast (or maybe even faster!) with less effort if you just slow down your fingers and avoid mistakes.
Good luck on your journey !

@NuclearSquid Thanks for the very valuable inputs!
@OdyX I'm switching to a ferris (34 keys), and will move m z and n to the left hand and right pointer finger, demoting è à ç to a symbol layer.
I'm curious about other ways to make bepo fit on a smaller matrix.
@OdyX I'm not ready yet for another layout, but yeah bépo has been showing its limits
