Oh, they updated the announcement:
>We’ve seen a little confusion about the language regarding licenses, so we want to clear that up. We need a license to allow us to make some of the basic functionality of Firefox possible. Without it, we couldn’t use information typed into Firefox, for example. It does NOT give us ownership of your data or a right to use it for anything other than what is described in the Privacy Notice.

@bbbhltz Ta & well done for posting this. Tbh i fully expected #Mozilla would release a follow up like this, once they observed the hysterical beat-ups running riot across the interwebz based on histrionic #FUD & wilful misunderstanding, then ridiculous extrapolation.

@bbbhltz Ta. Atm i continue to not panic, & opine [pending further info] that Mozilla have merely been hugely clumsy & ham-fisted here, rather than actually malignant. Shall certainly change my view if/when future actual data [not internet FUD hysteria like has been happening] surfaces. Until that putative day, i still see no reason for me to stop using my
