The question of how much to compromise with #GAFAM frequently arises on Fedi. For #WarCrimes , #CrimesAgainstHumanity and #Genocide : the #ICC 's compromise with GAFAM has made it highly vulnerable [1]:
"Multiple sources in the [ #InternationalCriminalCourt ] prosecutor's office said Microsoft's Azure cloud platform is critical to its operations and suspending access would paralyse its investigations. 'We essentially store all of our evidence in the cloud' "
@seanfobbe You probably know this already, but as an IHL/IHRL software/data person you're the ideal sort of person who maybe has the contacts to hopefully convince ICC tech support to backup their data and learn FOSS tools so that the vulnerability to MS/Azure being cut off due to US sanctions is mitigated. Just getting one fulltime FOSS geek that the ICC trusts would probably be enough for avoiding "paralysis" [1]. We shouldn't let the ICC collapse due to unwise software/server decisions.
This is madness. Democracy should not be dependent on external parties especially so with 'private' actors
