I have spent years trying (unsuccessfully) to pick up Rust as a first language as a hobby, and I always get busy at work and drop it for months at a time. I feel like I have been stumbling on the treadmill of sadness and forgetting as fast as I learn. I discovered https://docs.rs today, and think I will take a new approach. I brought my FreeBSD laptop home, and I will struggle through small to medium projects for at least 30 minutes every day. No days off. #RunBSD #rust

Disable password logins on the SERVER in favour of using SSH keys for authentication. Create the necessary SSH keys on a NetBSD CLIENT that will be used to secure access to remote devices:

For my NetBSD install I wanted to include _disk encryption_ to protect personal data in case the device is lost or stolen.
Its not really enough to simply encrypt home directories. Passphrases and sensitive data can linger and be extracted from locations such as system logs and swap memory. There is a trade-off to be made between how much to encrypt, the convenience of operating the system, and the ability for the system to boot.

#OpenBSD peeps, help needed please- I’m trying to install 7.7 onto an older intel Macbook Pro ([12,1 - 2.9Ghz i5 version](https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i5-2.9-13-early-2015-retina-display-specs.html)). For whatever reason the installer hangs before boot after enumerating disks. I get to a boot prompt just fine and start it, but when I get to “sd0” it just hangs. Any ideas on fixing it? FWIW other things boot fine - Machine currently has Fedora 42 installed with rEFInd alongside it.
How can I troubleshoot?

We'll cover when packets are inspected, when rules are evaluated and how states are used. Along the way we'll cover what DTrace probes can show us, what some of pfctl's counters mean and just how many times pf can look at a single packet.
This talk is intended for firewall admins looking for a deeper understanding and aspiring pf developers. It is not a "How to use pf" talk.
