This morning, looking across the Clyde to the 1880s Gothic style Govan Old Parish Church, home to the Govan Stones, a collection of early Christian, Pictish and Viking grave monuments.
Love this corner tower on a tenement building on Main Street in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow, especially the crenellations at the top.
A 1790s Georgian house nestled amongst 19th and early 20th Century buildings on Blackfriars Street in Glasgow. Similar in style to the nearby 52 Charlotte Street, it's thought to be the work of Robert and John Adam.
Former Commercial Bank of Scotland building in the Pollokshaws area of Glasgow. Designed by Thomas Baird, it was built in 1902.
Art Deco style Bank of Scotland emblem on the ground floor of the former Refuge Assurance Building on Renfield Street in Glasgow. Designed by Stanley Birkett, this building was constructed in the 1930s.
Right beside the 1960s Brutalist former Adam Smith building featured in my last post is this rather beautiful terrace of red sandstone Glasgow Style town houses built in 1907 and designed by John Nisbet. It's really quite a contrast in styles between neighbouring buildings!
Love this Brutalist floating stairwell on the former Adam Smith Building on Glasgow University's Gilmorehill Campus. Designed by David Harvey, Alex Scott & Associates and opened in 1967, this section rather reminds me of a giant concrete extractor fan of the type found in trendy tenement flats throughout the surrounding West End.
The Great Western Road Bridge over the River Kelvin at Kelvinbridge in the West End of Glasgow. Built in 1891, it was designed by Bell and Miller, with the iron work being created by William Arrol. It replaced an earlier bridge, the remains of which can still be seen under the current one.
A sea of lotus flower chimney pots on Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's 1860s extension on the 1850s Lilybank House in the Hillhead area of Glasgow.
Love this 1850s gushet tenement between Old Dumbarton Road and Yorkhill Street in the west of Glasgow. It's not particularly fancy, but there's a simple elegance to it.
Decorative Victorian floor tiles in a tenement close in the Hillhead area of Glasgow.
Neighborhood high density apartment tower nicknamed "The Monster Mansion" because of its massive capacity to pack nearly 10K souls in five interconnected blocks.

The early Edwardian red sandstone townhouses on Kensington Gate in the West End of Glasgow looking rather fabulous in this afternoon's sunshine.
Sometimes Glasgow's architecture makes it feel like you're walking through a magnificent oil painting, and sometimes it's like being trapped in a drawing by M.C. Escher! This one definitely falls into the latter category. It's the rear fire escape of the Queen Margaret Union on Glasgow University's Gilmorehill Campus.
As it's St George's Day today, I thought I'd post one of my favourite sculptures of Saint George fighting a dragon. It's from the University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel and was ceated in the 1920. I love the rather worried look the sculptor, Archibald Dawson, has given St George as the dragon bites into his shield!
Some rather beautiful 1860s blonde sandstone classical style tenements on the corner of Broomhill Terrace and Broomhill Avenue in the West of Glasgow.

J.T. Rochead's 1855 Grosvenor Terrace in the West End of Glasgow lit up against the night's sky. The section in the distance is original, while the section in the foreground is a reconstruction created using glass reinforced concrete in 1980 after this part of the terrace was gutted by fire in 1978.
