OpenSource softwares needs funds and it's simple:
- You can't help or you don't want to help? No problem you can still use the software for free
- You can help? help :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

If developers put a simple banner in software for donate campaign, what do is cost to you? Nothing

Especially if banner is not blocking and not visible when you start to use software

But.. :ablobcatknitsweats:
github.com/xTibor/kra-adblock

I can't understand why
Seeing this make me feel 🤮

@davidrevoy @grum999 what if you already support them or just unable to? You don't seem to be able to dismiss it, so plugin is the only way. It's an eyesore, too.

@hj @grum999 Mmm 🤔 . Ok, fair point.

I guess a plugin like that is ok as long as the message was sent in the first place and then it let the users decide what to make about it. Maybe offering a little 'close' button could be ok too.

I was probably mostly incomfortable about the symbol: removing this part of dev asking for support.

@davidrevoy @hj Source code is open and by default anybody can fork Krita and remove unwanted things, so what happened here is not forbidden but I just feel really sad to see that instead of contributing to help to improve Krita, some people contribute just to help users to remove dev support

No dev support, no fund = no software

If Krita stop due to a lack of fund, then, users will be happy: they won't have any more banner :blobcatgooglytrash:

@grum999 @davidrevoy don't jump to conclusions, it could have been made by people who already contribute but anonymously or in a way that krita doesn't track. IMO you're overreacting - it's a plugin that users have to install manually, it's not like it's a virus that automatically injects into every krita installation it can find just to do this. If some distro or someone bundles it in by default - that's a different question.

Remember than not everyone can contribute financially, not everyone can contribute in a meaningful way at all. Banner serves two purposes - deliver a message and be a link/reference for contibution/donation page. Once message is delivered some people might prefer to not see it again and I see nothing wrong with that.

>If Krita stop due to a lack of fund, then, users will be happy: they won't have any more banner
quite on the contrary, the banner will remain forever but will be useless, necessitating the existence of plugin for those still using in this apocalyptic scenario.

@hj @davidrevoy Yes I probably over reacting and yes it's just a plugin...

But it's just not possible for me to understand and I'll probably never understand

So just enjoy your day and forgot me and my point of view about this

@davidrevoy @grum999 i mean, if you install this plugin you already seen the ad, either in krita itself on the screenshot in the repo :)

@davidrevoy @grum999

@hj@shigusegubu.club you have a fair point about adding a close button to the banner and also about it being distracting.

However if you see the plugin it removes all the links to forum, krita website, source code, link to manual these are not ads. Also it states on the readme like this is advertisement and has a block list as if krita is serving ad from web. Let us be honest this is just a donation call and not web advert.

To give an update about this. The nightly build has a close button on the top left of the banner and this close button action is remembered so once the user closes the banner it won't appear for them. So the plugin is not required now.

@raghukamath @davidrevoy Hi!

Yes I saw the commit
Didn't have time yet to download and check results.

If choice came from developper's team to listen to users it's different, it's their choice and it's ok.

Concerning the plugin I'm still grumpy :blobcatangry:

@hj @davidrevoy The banner won't be visible for people who paid Krita from a store

For whom made a direct donation it's more complicated because hopefully Krita itself don't use network/account like some other paid softwares

It's just a banner for donation campaign, it's not Ad...
It's not blocking you, and as soon as a document is opened, you don't see it anymore...

Also, it's FOSS: nobody force you to donate; you donate if you want, if you can

@grum999 @davidrevoy regardless how you donated and if you're able to or not able to, that banner as it appears in the repo's screenshot is distracting and takes up way too much space, some people might have averse reaction ranging from "i've seen it once i don't need to see it again" to "this is gaudy and distracting".

I don't know how it works but in my installation there's only a text blurb at the bottom that doesn't take up space and isn't distracting at all. It's always there, so if it's replaced with that banner it would annoy me to no end if i had to see it every day.

@hj @davidrevoy you might use Krita 5.1.5 that's why you don't see it yet 😅

Once a document is opened you don't see the banner then I really don't understand the "distracting" argument...

@grum999 @davidrevoy what if my workflow involves opening and closing documents often? what if i open krita directly daily instead of opening a document from file manager? what if I use a 1366x768 laptop and banner makes me scroll document list more? Everyone's different.
