Quite the big deal:

"Light-field deep learning enables high-throughput, scattering-mitigated calcium imaging", by Howe et al. 2025 (Amanda Foust lab).
biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/20

Transfers one-photon light field images of Ca2+ sensors monitoring neuronal activity, which suffer from scattering in the mouse brain, to two-photon volumes that don't, using machine learning.

Image volumes acquired at 100 Hz demonstrate 10Hz spike rates.

Today I’m trying out a Kensington SlimBlade Pro Trackball, where the ball-fiddling (I picked that word carefully) is happening with the fingers, as opposed to the previous (and useless) one where I had to fiddle the ball with my thumb (and spent a complete day unable to click buttons or links). Let’s see how this goes.

We had this weird steel bridge in the back of the barn leading to a disused outhouse. It was in the way of todays operations, so I hooked it up and dragged it away. Alas, as I turned around to see if it's following nicely, I see a field mouse sprinting away in panic mode, the steel roof of its previously impenetrable fortress ripped away by force majeure, its safe tunnels and carefully stored acorn stashes exposed to open air!

Oops. Sorry mouse.
