Just about all #popes who have died in the past century are buried in the crypt under St Peter's #Basilica. But #Pope #Francis informed that he wants to be buried in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in #Rome. It is from 1903 that a pope will be buried outside the #Vatican walls.

What is sad is not #PopeFrancis's death per se: it is the knowing that the #catholic #church has so few leaders like him in its ranks. The #Pope chose #Francis of Assisi as his namesake, who put the vow of #poverty at the heart of the #franciscan order. Very unlike other residents of the #Vatican. He was routinely accused of #wokeness for pointing the finger at the corrupting power of money & for embodying #compassion for all people (incl. #LGBTQ & #indigenous leaders) & #nature (#LaudatoSi).RIP

Va a estar interesante, con los tiempos que corren, ver qué tendencia se impone en la Curia y a quién se elige como sucesor. Porque imagino que no lo sabréis, pero el omnipresente Peter Thiel que es quien apadrinó, aupó y puso en el Gobierno a J. D. Vance y que es el cerebro y cabecilla de la panda de oligarcas tecnológicos que ha asaltado el poder en #EEUU también tiene las manos metidas en el Vaticano y lleva años intrigando para poner a uno de los suyos al frente de la Iglesia. Aunque os sorprenda: sí, también hay cardenales trumpistas.

Si tuviera tiempo haría otro hilo sobre esto como el que hice tras la toma de posesión de Trump, pero no me da la vida. Porque lo de esta gente es algo realmente peligroso.
