3 ways that great software engineers demonstrate empathy…

🟢 They empathise with the problems and frustrations felt by their users, making them more likely to be able to solve their user's problems appropriately.

🟢 They empathise with the stress their product owner is under to deliver their project and recommend the most appropriate technical solutions based on the circumstances.

We’re constantly told to chase ‘optimal’ lifestyles – minimalism, hustle culture, FIRE, etc. But what does science actually say about which lifestyle delivers the most health and happiness?
Spoiler: The answer is more nuanced than influencers suggest.

I analyzed 20+ studies on longevity, mental health, and life satisfaction.
The most surprising findings:

This past weekend I attended the graduation ceremony of some colleagues which also officially marks 1 year before I graduate as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.

This undoubtably has been a long journey; by the time I graduate it will be 6.5 years.

What I do know is that Naturopathic Physicians are experts in helping people optimize their health whether they have a chronic disease or are simply looking to work preventatively.

Here’s to achieving this goal! 😍

"I don't feel like I'm ready yet...", "I don't feel like I'll ever be ready... "

I heard something similar recently from someone looking to break into tech...

Your self-talk is effectively programming your mind; saying something like this or even thinking it to yourself regularly is a sure way to halt your progress.

Me: "What do you think 'being ready' means?"

#writerscoffeeclub 19 Apr 'How do you feel about using real people as lookalikes for your characters?'

You want an honest answer?

I would have thought that this Venn diagram was true for most of us, most of the time?

Speaking for myself, and in relation to a character, I might (for example) prompt myself:

What would Fred Flintstone do?
What would Winston Churchill say?
What would [my school teacher] ask?
How would I react?

My article in this week's Common Weal Magazine

A new German study into Universal Basic Income found many of the same positive impacts as every other UBI pilot to date.

Imagine, instead, this had been a study into the impact of removing someone's UBI to try to convince us to create the world we live in today.

Common WealWork To Live — Common WealRather than ask how a UBI would improve life, we could ask what it would look like if someone tried to study the impact of taking a UBI away from us.

I wanted to briefly interject into the childish sandbox dispute between #Mastodon and #Bluesky: Nothing is better for one's #mental #wellBeing than the ability to disable any #commenting option under a post.
Thanks to this, I was able to post a political article about a hot potato in complete peace yesterday. Disabling #comments *and* quote-posts.

I won't post that here because I can't stand the comments that are caught like a glue trap by certain topics. Here I just boost direct media links.
