We have not enough rain. I know that without any app. Because always, when the traditional magnolia bloom in northern Alsace, it rains a lot. The splendour often lasts only a few days.
Now we've only had grey, dry days. Wonderful to see the flowers. But bad for the drying soil.
If you connect nature's calendar with "traditional" remembered weather you can see the shift: https://www.cronenburg.net/magic/
"The Right’s ‘Natural’ Meat Obsession Is a Regressive Fantasy" by @sentientmedia
<>
Another component for Kennedy of what constitutes “natural” is taking on things like red food dye, seed oils and ultra-processed foods — while promoting tallow, raw milk and grass-fed beef.

Vegans often are faced with fallacious arguments, and one of the most common is the Naturalistic fallacy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturalistic_fallacy
However, this is often a bad faith disguise. The use of naturalistic fallacies in these contexts, such as the claim that consuming animals is "good" because it's natural, is a disguise for another more insidious fallacy: the traditionalist fallacy or "appeal to tradition".
https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_tradition
The traditionalist fallacy is, in this context, the argument that "consuming animals is good because we've done it for thousands of years".
Traditionalism is heavily political, as the people are finding out again in places such as the US. It's sometimes known as "paleoconservatism", and it should be no surprise that the popularity of the "paleo diet" culturally connects to this.
Conservatives, ever since the rise of modernity (end of 'traditional' society, end of monarchism and feudalism) have been trying to reinvent the past through pseudointellectual and pseudoscientific efforts. This has been at the heart of incredible amounts of suffering and horror since then. I have some notes on that on my pinned thread: https://veganism.social/deck/@veganpizza69/110813538364525265
Bullshit & snake oil are not vegan.
I watched (listened) this talk at the gym, on the opposition between #indigenous #healing #traditions and western #medicine.
It's a honest presentation and touches on topics such as cultural appropriation and colonialism. The answer lies in reconciling these 2 approaches so they work together.

"#Food is a “powerful portal into memory, family histories and #cultural #traditions,” according to the initiative’s website, and “transmits cultural identity l’dor vador — from generation to generation.”
Kuhn said they are definitely seeing an upswing in food-focused projects, as “food brings people together and is a naturally inviting thing. It crosses barriers and fosters pride and joy.”
Future #videos will feature others in the small local #Ethiopian #Jewish community, like Aviva Bayon of Walnut Creek, who last year collaborated with Chabad of Contra Costa to hold a #Sigd celebration, a holiday unique to Ethiopian #Jews."
We, #Appalachians, love our #holiday #traditions.
While many customs align with broader, modern Valentine’s Day practices, there are unique #Appalachian twists—practical in decades past and still cherished today.

Saint-Valentin

Sunday morning at Udupi Krishnapura Matha: Wonderful early morning "dwaadashee" service followed by delicious "paarane" to break 30+ hour fast, and then kind words and blessings by the Swamiji. Also, humbled after meeting some accomplished people in the crowd.
"dwaadasha": dwa/dwi + dasha (2 + 10) is 12 in #Sanskrit. dwaadashee is the 12th day of the fortnight.
"aekaadashee" (aeka + dasha, 1 + 10), the 11th day, is fasting day. Early morning "paarane" on dwaadashee breaks the fast. In most mathas, paarane is complete by 8am.
She's in Tokyo, and her local tenmangu shrine (shrine to Tenjin--Michizane in god-mode) is having its uso-kae later this month. She'll take hers along and exchange it! (6/6)
The uso are carved in a stylized manner: a cylinder of wood, with a deep notch in it, then painted with a pattern of the bird's colors. Here's one that one of my Japan-living offspring made:
