#Ubuntu or #Gnome #bug :

Here's a screenshot of the firmware updater. Do you see *any* kind of button or control to actually *do* an update? No, me neither.

Look, I like gnome and I like Ubuntu, and I've used both for many years. But this is *terrible* design.

I switched from Thunderbird to Gnome Evolution several months ago. It's been great. Currently running latest flatpak on Debian Trixie with Gnome v48.

I do have one annoying niggle though...

I get a daily email from bringatrailer.com. It's basically a large-ish email of all the current auctions and it has a photo of each of the vehicles in the email. It can be a hundred or more images, lots of HTML.

I don't know if it is my slow internet connection (10Mbps) or if it is an issue with Evolution, but most of the time the email doesn't load all the images. It loads most images, but invariably not all. Re-opening the email makes it load all the images most of the time.

Thunderbird was always successful on the same internet connection.

So, I'm conflicted about whether I should open a ticket about this. On the one hand it is kind of a niche payload, on the other it should just work, and other clients handle it properly, or maybe it's some kind of lazy-load thing in Evolution giving up too early... I dunno.

So.
Why the fuck is @debian @thunderbird creating an .icedove folder on a fresh install of Debian 12 Bookworm, where a perfectly fine .thunderbird-folder with all profiles exists?
There's no need for it to be created during the Thunderbird runtime.

And I can confirm that it does not exist and get's created only after a startup of
Thunderbird with an existing profile in .thunderbird.
Just … why?

It's not even covered here¹, or should be the case of `1. Check if there is no folder or symlink named ~/.thunderbird .
2. Inform the user that an adoption of the existing Icedove profile will happen.
3. Create a symlink from ~/.thunderbird ~/.icedove . `

The wrapper script can just ignore this or not even run on a fresh install.

The fix is to rename .thunderbird into .icedove and then make a symlink from .thunderbird to .icedove or start Thunderbird, have the error shown again and it make the symlink. m)
