Self-Care Corvid bringing you the daily Public Service Announcement:
“Occasionally it would be engaging in gender affirming activities. That might mean getting my hair or nails done, looking after my body in a way that complemented my gender expression, or just spend time with friends who were accepting.” Emma
“I’m almost 70 years old, I have no time to neglect myself.”
- a comment on an #ADHD exercise related video that stopped me in my tracks and has been on my not 70 years old mind since
I’ve never thought about self-care in this way!
“Find your happy place where ever that may be for you. The world isn’t as bad as twitter or media would have you believe.” Joanne
This is the longest I’ve ever gone without publishing an article, and the stress of not having anything ready is weighing heavy on my heart
It’s ironic considering how often I write about the importance of resting and listening to your body when it needs a break.
I’m so grateful for the Disabled Ginger community, but my body and brain clearly need a break.
I sit down to write everyday, and so far all I have is 30+ drafts with titles, a few images and (at best) two lines of actual content.
This is the harsh reality of chronic illness. It doesn’t matter how much you WANT to do something… if your body says “No”… Its a No.
You can’t try harder your way out of it. You can’t play through the pain.
The more you try to fight your body, the harder and longer the crash.
If you’re struggling to rest right now, take this as a sign to unplug. Relax. Recharge. Give your body what it’s crying out for and do it without the guilt.
We will all be here for you when you’re ready.
Sharing my article on radical rest from the archives, because I need the reminder & maybe so does someone else:

Self care tips that actually work (some from my own experience, some from my friends' experience):
32. Stop trying to solve other people's problems. That friend in a toxic relationship? You can't get her out until she is ready to get out. She has to find her own path in life.
33. Bad hair day? Wear a tank top on your head like a turban. Also a solution for avoiding baggage fees.
34. When you don't manage to keep your plants alive, remember that they are not sentient beings.
35. Get a snip.
36. Get a coil. The one with hormones that also stops the bleeding and associated agony.
37. Use a private phone separate from your company's phone. Set do-not-disturb mode on the company's phone on weekends and workdays from 8PM to 8AM. Or from 5PM to 9AM.
38. Cancel streaming service subscriptions and get creative.
39. Go no-contact with those who drain the life out of you.
40. To quote my HS ethics teacher: "It's not good to eat too much chocolate, but 100g a day is perfectly fine."
41. Feel free to be naked in your home. But do have a broomstick handy for when your neighbours fly a drone by your window!
42. Use a dark background for your Office documents.
43. Declutter. Clothes, stuff, human relationships...
44. Put googly eyes on your mother's crucifix.

20. Tell annoying people "I cannot stress enough the utmost importance of you leaving me the fuck alone!"
21. Learn to curse in Croatian which has separate C-words for the character trait and for the body part, so that you do not give terrible men a compliment when you call them that!
22. Are you a cishet woman considering fucking a cishet man? Ask for letters of recommendations with contacts so that you can inquiry about his performance! Also, give honest performance reviews!
23. Quiet quitting! White strike! Italian strike! Malicious compliance!
24. Get a cleaner.
25. Eat take-away instead of cooking.
26. Eat instant ramen instead of cooking.

Self care tips that actually work (some from my own experience, some from my friends' experience):

If I feel bad about myself when comparing my beauty to that of others on social media, and if it harms me emotionally, then I don't have to return their likes or interactions, right? It's the same as not having to pay for unnecessary or even harmful unapproved things, for example. #MentalHealth #SocialMedia #Boundaries #SelfCare #Wellbeing

@RunRichRun Yes! I like Sir Peter Ustinovs idea (his whole life, he worked for the utopia of a world citizenship):
Die Belastung von Medienleuten durch grausames #Bildmaterial ist durch Kriege und Katastrophen immer weiter gestiegen - und auch die Aufmerksamkeit für das Problem.
Ende Mai gebe ich dazu ein Tagesseminar mit der Traumatherapeutin Fee Rojas in Hannover. Auch #Freie Medienschaffende können sich anmelden.

Sixty Things You Can Do Without a Smartphone - my latest mental health zine, now available at https://littlebetterzine.com
This zine includes a long list of free and low-cost #selfcare activities that you can do while taking a break from smartphones and social media.
The idea for this zine came from the many conversations I’ve had with patients who feel addicted to their phones. If that sounds like you, I hope you find this little guide helpful!
